Creativity runs Wild with Phototex

PRODUCT DIVERSITY.

Here at Fitzgerald's we have a huge range of products from inkjet and photographic prints, printed canvas, to acrylic products and beyond. But nothing truly illistrates the diversity of products and a diversity in application like our Phototex (aka "Sticky Pics.")

WHAT IS PHOTOTEX?

What is Phototex? You may ask. Great question! Phototex (aka Sticky Pics) is a peel and stick polyester fabric, adhesive material that can be installed on virtually any flat surface (indoor & out) in any weather condition and then removed and reused many times over. Its the flexability and durability of this product that allow you to really let your imagination run wild!

PHOTOTEX GONE WILD!

Fitzies recently printed an exhibition that showed the diversity of the product called:

Waypoints - A collaborative multi-media installation by Moira Fearby, Kate Koivisto Wheeler, Richard Munsie and Heloise Roberts.
The collaborating Artists from the Waypoints exhibition were in need of a product that was versitile and would not distroy the gallery space. So naturally our first suggestion was the use of Phototex. Images printed on Phototex were stuck to all manner of surfaces confident that the images could be removed without destroying the walls, paint, glass, doorframes or whatever the images were stuck to. The result? You can see below how they converted what would normally be a pretty stark gallery space into an intriguing and engaging exhibition at the Heathecoat Museum and Gallery.

New-Art Custom Wallpapers

CUSTOM WALLPAPER

Client, Blue Stream Photographic Art, recently commissioned the printing of a series of custom wallpapers for some of their recent projects including a wallpaper for “Two 40 Three” Restaurant in the recently refurbished Coventry Square Markets.
Upon receiving the job our graphics team set to work separating the wallpaper art into panels for printing on our large format printer and within a few days it was ready to be installed!

DIVERGENCE - Photographic Exhibition.

DIVERGENCE: PHOTOGRAPHS FROM ELSEWHERE
As one of the premier pro labs in Australia, we here at Fitzgerald Photo Imaging have had the honour of printing, finishing, framing and mounting a whole host of works for the Divergence: Photographs from Elsewhere exhibition. You're in for a visual feast as a massive line up of photographers works from all over the world come together in one place for what is sure to be one of the highlights of FotoFreo. Take it from us, from what we have seen... its definatly worth heading down to the Midland Railway Workshop for what will be an amazing exhibiton in what is an amazing space in its self!

FORM presents Divergence: Photographs from elsewhere featuring over sixty photographers based in fifteen countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Russia, Germany, India, Italy, Czech Republic, Spain, Lebanon, Ukraine, Turkey, Argentina and the UK; in addition to local and national photographers from Australia.

A monumental showcase of international contemporary photography from over sixty photographers will be on display at the Midland Railway Workshop from March 15 - April 15th 2012

The exhibition will be held in the visually stimulating panorama of the Midland Railway Workshop, a large scale industrial and historic site, which provides a stunning backdrop by some of the world’s most renowned photographers.

Headlining the show are leading international Magnum UK Photographer, Martin Parr, Magnum India Photographer, Sohrab Hura and the renowned Ketaki Sheth and Bharat Sikka.

OPEN EXHIBITION PROGRAM: FOTOFREO

FORM is partnering with the FotoFreo Open Exhibition Program to present a group show of emerging and avant garde photographers, from the highly stylised portraiture of orphaned children in the Ukraine, to Vita Buivid’s, fun, and playful, kitsch images from Russia, to the intimate lives and moments captured by Chandan Ahuja’s evocative black and white images of domestic life in India.

The PILBARA PROJECT PHOTOGRAPHER'S CUT

Closer to home, The Pilbara Project Photographer’s Cut will present the dramatic photographs captured by a collective of Australia’s most acclaimed photographers during field trips to the North West. Good friends of Fitzies, Tony Hewitt, Les Walkling, Christian Fletcher and Peter Eastway, consider the collision and interconnection of the land, industry and cultures of the Pilbara.

MORE THAN JUST AN EXHIBITION

Photographers will travel internationally to attend the exhibition and exclusive interviews are available.

On March 17th, a comprehensive program of artist talks, presentations, and a special, site specific installation by choreographer and dancer, Jacob Lehrer, will be held at the Midland Railway Workshop. These talks are open to the public and all are welcome to sit in on what will be an informative and insightful day for photographers and visual admirers alike.

Fitzies was recently approached by client Altona mining LTD, to update the look of their Perth based office foyer with some printed wall art. The Brief.

One of our countless valued clients Image Portrait Studio, recently asked us to help them create some new window graphics for their East Perth studio.
The guys from Image Portrait Studio were elated to find that we could handle the whole job right from design to final installation of the graphics on their windows.
With some supplied images from Image Portrait Studio our crack graphic design team got to work creating a new look for their studio windows even incorporating their new logo.The graphics were then printed on our in-house latex printer on to an outdoor rated self-adhesive vinyl, ready for application to their windows.
The graphics were then installed earlier this week.

The result... See it with your own eyes.

Weekend Lomo Workshop

Over the weekend the Atelier hosted a Lomography Workshop, with 30 participants from a range of backgrounds came together with a shared interest in learning more about this lo-fi phenomenon. Ian Tatton from Lomography Australia tutored the class in the basics of lomo film photography. Each member was supplied with a Holga 135 camera and was then set free to experiment.

The grounds of the Railway Workshops, though still under repair with a lot of areas still not able to be accessed, were a great choice and provided some great opportunities for creative lomo shooting. Everyone went home with their minds full of ideas, and returned the next morning ready to try them. The class then went on excursion to the local growers market, finding the change in scenery both refreshing and challenging.

Returning back to the Atelier, the class had lunch followed by some group experimentation with 2 other kinds of lomo cameras; the Action Sampler and the Lomo Fisheye. Groups took portraits of each other, rewound the film, swapped cameras, reloaded and kept on shooting. This double exposing technique allows for a number of creative possibilities not necessarily considered by those working normally with only digital applications of photography.

After two days of learning, 30 new lomographers went home with new creative possibilities now available to them. Hopefully we will be seeing some of their continued lomo work coming through the lab soon.

The Apple that Fell far from the Tree

Its quite clear that Apple has built something special. Something so much more than a financially successful business. Their accomplishments aren't grounded in number crunching, cost cutting, or audit controls... No bogus deals-of-the-day, scam-the-customer or Stock market gaming. Instead, they've developed an enduring brand and culture that is now renowned as the most valuable technology company in the world today.

Here are five simple Keys from Apple that we can all embrace to initiate more success in our own careers, companies and communities:

1. Shatter conventional wisdom.

So often our fear of failure masks itself as wisdom.

Apple doesn't waste their time trying to lower their costs by using cheap materials. Instead, they direct their focus toward changing the world's idea of what is possible. While some people cower at the thought of stepping outside the box, the folks at Apple practically live outside it.

2. No Restrictions.

If you can dream it, there's a way to make it happen.

So often in our fear-based society, we focus on all the reasons something can't be done. We let imaginary hurdles restrict us in reaching our true potential. Not Apple. They refuse to be derailed and let those seemingly impossible challenges drive their cause instead of quench their dreams.

3. Innovation Triumphs.

Nothing of significant value is ever achieved without a degree of risk.

Apple celebrates risk takers, visionaries, and radical designers. They have realized that creativity and innovation are the lifeblood of the organisation, and have built a culture and philosophy that rewards it.

4. Design matters.

There is always a way to improve it.

Apple know that design is as important as function. As a result their products are beautiful works of art rather than utilitarian machinery. Their focus is not just on what their products do, but how they make their customers feel, and customers are willing to pay handsomely as a result.

5. Passion first.

Don't pursue Money over purpose.

Apple connect passionately to the impact their products will make on customers. They follow their hearts instead of earnings-per-share. Apple's passionate desire pursues perfection, and perfection attracts people who are willing to pay for it. An ancient proverb comes to mind. "Do you see someone diligent and skillful in their business? They will stand before kings; they will not stand before unknown, obscure people."* Or as Apple sees it: If you fight your fear, dare to dream, take some risks, handle your passion with humility (enough to see where things could be improved) and allow your purpose to be your passion, then people of significance will be drawn to you.

I’d say Apple has the fruit to show for it. (Pardon the pun.)

Social Media - Photographic Apocalypse!

No one can deny the rise of social media has done great things for the photographic industry in promoting and displaying photographers’ work to more people than ever before. But when coupled with our consumer driven, throwaway society, are we at risk of creating a disposable image culture that has no value for a well-crafted photograph?

Whether we like it or not the digital age is here to stay and the advancements in photographic technology and dropping prices of digital cameras have meant that just about anyone can get their hands on a good quality digital camera. The possibilities of how photographs can be captured, stored and viewed are endless in today’s modern age.

Like a Dry sponge in Water

We have become a generation that soaks up visual media like a dry sponge in water. Every day we soak up images on billboards, signs, magazines, and newspapers, on TV and computer screens.

But which ones do we actually remember?

Which ones do we value?

What happens when we get to image saturation point?

Like a Louis Vuitton bag amongst a pile of fakes, are we running the risk of loosing the value of good quality images?

An Insecure Future

If you are anything like most of us, a majority of your precious photographic memories are on a not so secure hard disk or floating around the Internet somewhere on your website, facebook profile or other kind of social media site. But as you look around, scarcely will you find a printed image to be found anywhere, be it in an album, in a frame or on the wall. Meaning images are here today and gone tomorrow into the abyss of the digital world, stored on some far distant server on the other side of the globe.

So it is that several troubling questions keep me awake at night…

What is permanent in this Digital age?

What happens when the next social media craze hits?

What happens to all those images that you have posted on your facebook profile after you have moved on to Google+ or whatever the next social media "in" thing is?

Look at what happened to Myspace.

Could this be the beginning of a digital photo Armageddon?

There is Hope

But wait… Before we all start to panic and start stockpiling a film camera arsenal and rolls of film like ammunition in an underground bunker somewhere, all your digital hopes are not lost.

Every week we see thousands of images on our computer screens here at Fitzgerald Photo Imaging. But I’m still astonished at how a beautifully printed image will stop us in our tracks and have us gazing into its complexities for what seems like an eternity. However I might see the same image on screen give little thought about its intention, execution and communication. But a physical print demands my attention.

All is Fair in Love and Coffee

One of our talented team members Wesley Cooper is very passionate about Fair Trade & Organic produce. So after bringing it up at a recent Staff Meeting, we all decided to make a change by introducing Fair Trade Organic coffee into the office.

After a little research we discovered BioBean Coffee ...

which is the only exclusively Organic roaster in Western Australia with ACO certification! The coffee arrived this afternoon and it smells AMAZING! We are currently waiting for our previous coffee beans to run out so we can dive into the new batch, we will let you know how it goes.
